Patrik Kriššák

Visual artist Patrik Kriššák (*1986) was born in Kežmarok, (former) Czechoslovakia, and studied painting under prof. Daniel Balabán at the Faculty of Fine Arts, University of Ostrava (Czech Republic). Since his gradation in 2011, he is based in Prague.

Patrik’s renown as a distinctive contemporary artist has been confirmed with nominations for several prestigious awards (STRABAG Art Award 2011; Start Point Prize 2011; The Critics’ Award for Young Painting 2012; VÚB Painting of the Year Award 2019) as well as his participation at the Zlín Youth Salon (2015). His artistic practice oscillates between figurative and abstract painting, often of gestural nature.

In 2014, Patrik conceived his own innovative technique, where he applies paint to a canvas by placing and overturning glass containers and bowls onto a horizontally laid canvas. The artist’s latest cycle Extinction reflects on global climate change, which has already started to affect natural ecosystems.
